Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore… Woy Woy!

The world’s biggest little play festival, Short & Sweet is coming back to the NSW Central Coast and local writers are invited to join the fun!

Gosford City Council will again host a week-long festival of short plays at the Peninsula Theatre, Woy Woy from 23rd July 2008 featuring local actors and directors and showcasing the work of local playwrights.  After such a huge success in 2007, the Festival is set to become a regular feature on Council's artistic program.

Short & Sweet was originally conceived by Mark Cleary of the Newtown Theatre in Sydney. In just seven years it has grown to be the world’s biggest festival of its kind, with more than 1,500 international entries received annually and seasons featuring more than 100 plays drawing sell-out audiences in Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore – with NZ, the US and European versions on the way too!

The brilliant formula of short, tasty ’bites’ of theatre is a hit with audiences everywhere because it offers something for everyone… as well as a stage for fresh, new work and the chance for upcoming artists to strut their stuff. The same ten plays are performed each night, a panel of judges selects the Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress and the audience selects the winner of the People's Choice Award.  Prizes are awarded at a Presentation night at the end of the Festival which concludes on 26th July 2008.

Festival Coordinator of Short and Sweet Regional 2008 will be local actor, writer & director Brenda Logan, voted Best Director at Short and Sweet Regional 2007.  Brenda is also currently directing a play in the Sydney version of Short & Sweet, along with her busy life acting, writing, directing and teaching young people theatre craft.
