Die Roten Punkte As part of the Comedy Festival, Tobias & Bartholomew present, the self proclaimed ‘best band in the world’, Die Roten Punkte. If you think you are ready to enter the huffy, self-absorbed, playfully morose and simply idiotic world of simpleton-sibling rock, then enter the world of Berlin’s Otto and Astrid Rot

Die Roten Punkte (the Red Dots), inspired by the White Stripes, bring a Spinal Tap  sensibility to the Bosco Theatre at Federation Square. In the hands of Tobias and Bartholomew, this shambolic sham-band, shamelessly displays their rock’n’roll cred alongside their sibling confusion and their deluded grandeur.

This is simply a thoroughly entertaining show. Part farce, part mini-rock concert and partly disturbing. The Rot siblings are messy and self indulgent, and I’m not sure if they can really play those instruments.

Nattily staged and costumed, this production has a fluidity brought about by obviously experienced performers, who can adapt effortlessly within a partly improvised performance style. The only weak point is the fight choreography, it seems under-rehearsed and consequently the performers seem unsure of their boundaries.

Die Roten Punkte is the type of band who will take you on a musical journey, around the bend and straight into the safe haven of lunacy. The songs are ridiculously repetitive, the accents are captivatingly cheesy and sibling rivalry has never looked so dirty.
