Do you have an un-produced script that’s ready for the stage?
Entries are now open for the 2007 Griffin Award, the annual $5000 cash prize offered for the most outstanding new work submitted to the company throughout the year.
Now in its 10th year, the Award celebrates the bright future of Australian drama. More than one hundred nominations were received from every Australian state in 2006 with Griffin expecting a similar level of interest in 2007.
Thanks to the generosity of Griffin's principal sponsor, PKF Chartered Accountants, the winner of the 2007 Griffin Award will also receive a laptop computer in addition to the cash prize.
Submitted plays must be at least 60 minutes long and reflect Griffin's artistic policy: to present Australian work that is innovative and imaginative; that demonstrates a unique voice and a commitment to addressing the problems and possibilities of our times.
Works may be original ideas or adaptations from other forms. The Griffin’s literary office will assess all entries and prepare a shortlist that will be submitted for judging by a panel of industry leaders.
Previous winners include Mary Rachel Brown (Australian Gothic, 2006), Debra Oswald (Mr Bailey’s Minder, 2004) and Brendan Cowell (Rabbit, 2003). Playwright Ian Wilding has won the Award twice (The Carnivores, 2005 and Below, 2000) with his latest work October, set to make its world premiere for Griffin on April 26.
Entries for the 2007 Griffin Award must be received by 4pm, Friday March 16. To enter, click on the literary page at www.griffintheatre.com.au , complete the entry form and send with your script to:
