Melbourne Theatre Company has announced two new appointments to the Company’s senior management team: Pauline O’Brien as Marketing Director, and Julia White as Development Director.
These new MTC positions will play vital roles with the Company as it embarks on an exciting fresh chapter, with construction of its long-awaited 500-seat theatre in Southbank well under way.
Pauline O’Brien has extensive marketing experience in the arts and tourism industries. With a Master of Business (Marketing), she was most recently Marketing Manager for Victoria University, implementing new branding and overseeing its application to all areas of the University. Prior to that, Pauline was Healesville Sanctuary’s Marketing Manager for five years, and has also worked with The Australian Ballet, Amnesty International and Breakthrough Breast Cancer (London).
“This is a great opportunity to be part of MTC through this exciting period with the move to the new theatre,” Pauline says. “I hope to make a contribution to the ongoing success of the company by making the most of the opportunity the new theatre presents, to attract new audience to the incomparable experience of live theatre.”
Julia White has more than 10 years’ experience in arts development and marketing. Trained in arts management at WAAPA, she was most recently Business Development & Marketing Manager with Frankston Arts Centre, Victoria’s largest outer-metropolitan arts venue, where she enjoyed success with high levels of sponsor retention and increased subscription numbers. Julia has also worked with the Melbourne Festival, Melbourne Symphony and The Australian Ballet School.
“I’m excited to be joining the Company and the challenges that the new theatre will present,” Julia says. “I was drawn to the position mainly because of the reputation MTC has in the industry, but also because of the importance of this role for the new theatre – a chance to make a serious contribution toward the development of the arts in Melbourne.”
“It’s wonderful to have a whole new energy and vision in the offices next door,” says Ann Tonks, MTC’s General Manager. “We love what we create. The more people that come to see our shows the better, and the more people and companies that support our endeavours the better. And that, in a nutshell, are the roles of the Marketing and Development Directors.”
