Ron made his first appearance on the stage at the Tivoli Theatre Adelaide in 1946. In 1953 he joined the Stratford Memorial Theatre (now the Royal Shakespeare Company) with whom he toured three times to Russia. Following his return to Sydney he starred in many productions by theatre company Trust Players, including Long Days Journey into Night and Julius Ceasar and, from 1963, he starred in over 40 productions for the Old Tote Theatre Company. He has since worked for nearly every major Australian theatre company. His most recent stage appearance was for Queensland Theatre Company in the new Australian play Water Falling Down.

Ron has also performed in hundreds of radio dramas (including the title roles in Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth and King Lear), documentaries, special features and is frequently heard reading poetry for the ABC. Ron has had parts in some of the most iconic series in Australian television history - A Country Practice, Mother & Son, Water Rats, Home and Away, Copshop, Underbelly and as the melodic narrator of Cloudstreet

In 1974 Ron was awarded the M.B.E. for his services to the Arts and in 1995 Ron was appointed Governor of the Actors Benevolent Fund in NSW.

Ron will be presented with his award at a ceremony in Sydney next month.
