The producers of the brand spanking new production of The Rocky Horror Show, set to open Sydney’s new Star Theatre in February 2008, have announced that John Waters will perform the role of The Narrator.
John Waters joins a stellar cast announced at The Rocky Horror Show launch last week including Helpmann Award winning singer/songwriter Iota as the outrageous Frank-N-Furter, the much-loved Paul Capsis as Riff Raff the butler, award-winning singer, dancer and actress Sharon Millerchip as Columbia, Tamsin Carroll as Magenta, Mamma Mia! star Kellie Rode as Janet and internationally accomplished singer and actor Michael Cormick as Eddie.
One of Australia’s most versatile, credible, and popular leading men, John Waters arrived in Australia from his native England in 1968 with nothing more than a guitar and $90 in his pocket. He soon landed the role as the charismatic Claude in the rock musical Hair. He then performed Judas in Godspell, won a TV WEEK Logie for his work on the ABC television drama Rush, and presented Playschool for 20 years! At home on stage, screen, or behind a guiltar and microphone, Waters also put together and performed Looking Through A Glass Onion, the critically acclaimed one-man show based on the life of John Lennon, which toured nationally and to London’s West End. Other stage productions include Jesus Christ Superstar The Concert, The Sound Of Music and They’re Playing Our Song. John is currently appearing on the Seven Network in All Saints.
The new production of The Rocky Horror Show will be directed by award-winning director Gale Edwards and choreographed by multi-disciplined choreographer John O’Connell.
The Rocky Horror Show has not been seen in Sydney for a decade and will be the debut production for the soon-to-be-opened Star Theatre. The season promises a rollicking night and the boldest bash of them all. So fish out the fishnets and sharpen those stilettos for the rockiest ride of your life and buy a ticket before madness takes its toll.
The Sydney season goes on sale on Monday 27th August so if you have voyeuristic intentions, you know what to do.
