The title sounds like Last Night of the Proms with Land of Hope and Glory as the finale. Nothing could be further from the case.
Powell was an excellent MC, providing the audience with chatty anecdotes about the early days of Sun Records under Sam Phillips.
Champagne, exquisite showgirls, a suave oh-so-French MC, simply extraordinary aerialists, gorgeous costumes, sensual dance moves, comedy, risqué banter, sequins, feathers, barely-there lingerie.
Damian Power had more than a few good comedic moments, however his super relaxed manner often came across as under rehearsed, even ill-prepared. It really surprises me to see an experienced comedian refer to notes.
Last year’s show was so hysterically funny and in a more intimate venue the following show had a lot to live up to.
Elegantly clad in a black full length, cut-away shouldered number Cathrine Summers was accompanied by the excellent Alastair Peel on keyboards and the clever pianist Ben Matthews.
Omigod you guys – if this isn’t the best feel good musical of the year, I don’t know what is!
