Madama Butterfly

June 28 - August 10 2019 | Tickets from $47 | Joan Sutherland Theatre

Acknowledged as the world’s most popular opera, Puccini’s classic Madama Butterfly tells a story of two lovers constrained and cocooned by culture and time.

Graeme Murphy’s arresting new production captures the pleasures and despairs of love with choreography that mirrors its grace and gravity that ends in the cruellest heartbreak.

The traditional tale will remain cemented by Puccini’s ageless sublime music but embrace the digital era with a dynamic backdrop made up of colourful film fragments.

Fluttering beauty, caught and pinned for his pleasure, bound and beautiful still.

Venue: Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House, Sydney 2000
Dates: Friday 28 June 2019 – Saturday 10 August 2019
