'Faith is the bird who feels the light when the dawn is still dark.' ' Rabindranath Tagore
Yerma is directed by Melanie Thomas and is the second play by Lorca that Dionysus Theatre has produced. Performing at the Chapel Off Chapel theatre on August 27th and 28th 2021 at 8pm, this is our first live performance since 2019.
After years of childless marriage turn into despair, ridicule and unyielding sorrow, Yerma's yearning for motherhood grows to a blinding obsession. Originally written in 1934 and forming the second part of Lorca's 'Rural Trilogy', Yerma explores the immutable plight of a young woman, desperate to conceive and the bitterness that births when disillusionment and dreams are slowly crushed within the passage of time.
Directed by Melanie Thomas, with choreography from Cadi MacInnes, featuring original music by Sheridan Killingback.
Starring: Freya Timmer-Arends, and Alexander Loadman, with James Dale, Roisin O'Neill, Elise D'Amico, Madeline Rintoul, and Catherine Baker
