
Celebrating the power of the arts, the Melbourne Arts Festival is bringing to audiences a series of three concerts focused on Christ’s last seven words on the cross “Into Thy hands I commend my Spirit”.

There are some subjects about which people have an almost morbid fascination. It is the hidden, the taboo and the deviances from the norm that spark the imagination and foster unutterable questions.

Elemental is almost beyond definition. It’s an exploration of quantum physics and modern cosmology through video art, music, poetry and live performance.


To the edifying sounds of Italian opera, in a blaze of high-tech lighting, Da Vinci’s second most famous painting is instantly transformed.

Imagine a group of people 5 metres above you swaying hypnotically on poles like a field of wheat in a breeze as the Melbourne skyline lights up in a burst of fireworks to a chorus of happy sighs from the audience.

The star of the work is a walking, talking, human-sized teddy bear. But, like the bear, the relationships and the realities of the characters in this production are not what they seem.
