What's On

Rainbow Families Hub

From 21–25 January 2020 The Melba Spiegeltent and Circus Oz will be transformed into the Rainbow Families Hub, providing a safe and inclusive space specifically designed for LGBTIQA+ families and allies to celebrate this Midsumma.

Rainbow Families Hub will host five jam-packed days of family entertainment – craft workshops, activities, live comedy and cabaret – celebrating all families: those made, chosen and found.

Featuring some of Melbourne’s best family-friendly performers, artists and storytellers, the program is designed for you and your family to drop in for an hour, a morning or afternoon, or come for the whole five days and enjoy all the free and ticketed events on at The Melba Spiegeltent.

Free activities include daily storytime sessions and workshops where you can make your own family flag, item of wearable art or magazine (supported by Archer Magazine) – all developed to encourage telling and celebrating our family stories.

Ticketed shows include: How To Be A Rockstar (Tessa Waters), Children Are Stinky (Malia Walsh), Kid-aoke (Bae Marie) and Sing-A-Long Dragtime (Frock Hudson and Miss Jay). Special events include: Rainbow Families Dance Club (All the Queens Men), Queerspawn (Maeve Marsden). Topping off the week is the brand-new circus show Over the Rainbow Cabaret, hosted by Tessa Waters.

Need some energy to get you through all the craft workshops, singing, dancing and circus classes? We’ve got you covered with our daily vegan and veggie-friendly lunch and coffee cart for the adults.

Rainbow Families Hub is presented with the support of Queerspace Drummond Street, Rainbow Families Victoria and Archer Magazine.
