Remembering fondly of La Verita, we see familiar faces return to the stage in a more personal and even somewhat bitter-sweet manner. Donned in knight's armour we see the immediate use of symbolism that weaves it's way throughout every facet of the show. The knights move slowly and clank about on stage and although their armour is protecting them it is also hindering their movement, much like the emotional armour one carries.
Wind plays a key role in this show and each scene displays the beauty and fragility of simple objects placed in the middle of the stage, circled by several wind machines.
Wind, much like life, can be unpredictable, uncontrollable and powerfully beautiful. Per Te has captured this perfectly with their use of wind as it's main prop. Heavily armoured knights stand beneath sheets of silk like fabric that dance and weave through the wind like ballet dancers. Flags of plastic sheet surrender themselves to the ebb and flow as the cast talk of surrendering in their own battles and creating yet another symbolic moment. The acrobat hangs effortlessly in the ring as a thousand rose petals dance and kiss his cheeks and it is easy to just slip away in the breeze of the visuals in front of you.
The lighting throughout the performance was superb in it's simplicity, alongside the use of projections that were cast on screens, floating sheets and even on the performer's themselves. This created a feeling of serenity. This safe atmosphere of floating clouds, water and use of calming colours in turquoise and soft orange help carry the monologues through and gave the audience an almost sense of peace, despite it's sometimes melancholy content. However, this being said – if you're not in to monologues, this might not be the best choice for you as they are pretty prevalent throughout the show. With so much content it can be hard to keep focus, so if you're easily distracted by the beauty of the back ground or the whirling of the wind swept objects anyone could quickly become guilty of missing what is being said.
The show by no means is without it's awe and gasping, with it's soul still belonging to cirque. Contortionists to make you cringe, clown like behaviour to make you laugh and movement to inspire you. It was pleasing to see that there is always a way to relay a message, even if it is one that confronts you and makes you touch on your own hidden battle scars. A beautiful dedication to the company's co-founder Julie Hamelin Finzi and a special insight in to the beauty that one can find in reflection and the fragility of all things in the powerful breeze that blows through all the memories of a life lived.
