Like Love | Rebecca Moore

Like Love | Rebecca MooreFrom the first flush of teenage romance to the heartbreaking despair when it all goes pear shaped, music plays a crucial role.

In Like Love, Rebecca Moore explores her own personal collection of love songs in her debut cabaret performance as part of the Melbourne Cabaret Festival.

From jazz standards to musical theatre greats, Moore weaves a tale of the many facets of love. First kisses, loser boyfriends and Disney Princesses are all featured in the hour long performance and Moore even goes so far as to read from her own teenage diary in an awkwardly beautiful moment.

What is most poignant about Like Love is the privacy that was once awarded to relationships, regardless of their length or intensity is now gone. Living in the social media age where relationship statuses are more a status symbol than any indication of intimacy and innermost thoughts are broadcast for the word to see, it is easy to feel sympathetic towards the current generation of love-struck teenagers.

Moore’s presence onstage is pure warmth and she radiates throughout the performance. Singing through a score of crowd-pleasing favourites, Moore switches between genres easily, her lovely voice a joy to listen to.

It is a concept that could be perceived as cheesy, but Moore’s natural charm and sincerity bring a truthful sweetness to the entire show.

Both funny and sweet, Like Love is a wonderful insight into the world of love songs and the many different reactions they can evoke.
