Snazzy | Peter HelliarPeter Helliar's stand-up show, Snazzy, aims as low as a nuclear submarine, and bombs just as hard. Ok, that is over-stating the issue a little. But, aside from his extensive use of "f***in'," he rarely ramps up his persona from jovial presenter mode, which seems to work for him on TV.

When will these references to the stale end of 'pop' culture ever end?! My guess is when he stops umming, ahhing, and stammering his way to the lowest common denominator.

The two-thirds full crowd in The Garden of Unearthly Delights' Vagabond tent seemed pretty appreciative. Helliar plays the simple-bloke-charm card time and again, which fits well with his fatherhood material, and even his scatology (the extended poo section is hot and cold). But it cannot save every laboured gag. I did enjoy that he reminded me of some 90s cultural quirks, and just generally made me feel special in my Gen Y-dom. But I was going "huh" much more than "HA!"

This is a pretty safe night out, and will appeal to those like Helliar's alter-ego, Collingwood Magpies hopeful, 'Strauchanie'. But I feel that he could give his audience a little more credit. Come on, this is Adelaide.
