Good bits included the transition from narrative to action, and the segment in which one of the actors played two people at once in conversation with himself. But that didn’t let us in on where the whole thing was heading, and we are left with one of their own lines: “I don’t know what she is talking about”!
The title, There invites the question, “Where?” and there was no answer. Even more, I would ask, “Why?” Why, for example would two such clearly competent actors involve themselves in such esoteric and amorphous nonsense? It may be very modern, imaginative, experimental and challenging, but there is no discernible theme, certainly no story, and no thought provoking question demonstrated, other than one which was articulated in the show, namely, “What the fuck has this to do with my life?”
Perhaps that is the point – the hollowness and irrelevance, powerlessness and mediocrity of life that some must feel. But in describing this show, the Fringe Brochure says, “I just want a good story – is that too much to ask?” Apparently it is.
