Only Human | Andy MuirheadBest known in Melbourne as the amiable host of ABC’s cult classic The Collectors, Andy Muirhead is also a seasoned comedian, having performed at last year’s festival.

Early in the show we soon discover quite a lot about the man - he’s a trained biologist, is from Hobart (the butt of several jokes), is a breakfast radio host and is a skilled observer and clever story-teller.

After a little background about last year’s show and how complicated it is to find anything in Melbourne, including last year’s venue, we soon discover that Andy is keen to discover what makes us human and how we differ from other species.

Re-telling stories about last year’s audience members who were encouraged to share the worst things they have done (some were shockingly open about their pasts) was not only a good insight into people’s behaviour but also a highlight of the show.

The need to please, especially when you have just purchased something (such as his bargain three-piece suit) and the strange desire to travel around in a caravan proved a rich source of comedy material.

With literally hundreds of shows to choose from in the festival this year, it is a complex task finding something appealing to your tastes. Andy Muirhead in Only Human is a very likeable comedian with a witty, funny slant on the lives we lead.
