Everything That Ever Happened, Ever | The DelusionistsNow here are an interesting group of performers. The Delusionists (Paul Ayre, Damian Higginbotham, Ben Jenkins, Alex Lee, Steen Raskopoulos and Susie Youssef) whose current outing, Everything that Ever Happened, Ever, is a wild sketch comedy show that hopscotch’s through history like a one-legged man. In other words: it’s amusing, but a little bit off-balanced. In the wrong hands this could be a bad thing, but with these excellent performers at the helm, this sketch comedy show is fast, furious and funny and doesn’t rest long on its laurels.

The basic conceit, that The Delusionists will show us everything that ever happened, ever, is a nice one, and allows the group ample space on which to hang their rag-tag sketches. They are all strong performers, although some of the material seems a little bit University revue in style and it would be nice to see the strong female comedians Alex Lee and Susie Youssef utilised a bit more.

Having said this as a group The Delusionists’ different comedic styles are all well-balanced and overall their material is smart and sophisticated. It will be interesting to see how the group continues to grow and develop, as it’s clear they are a talented bunch. Throughout the show videos are used sparingly and to great effect, and the group makes good use of their small rabbit warren of a space at the Town Hall. The Delusionists’ Everything that Ever Happened, Ever can’t possibly hope to convey the entire world’s history in a single hour, but it can guarantee you a laugh, and that alone is well worth the price of admission.
