La Petite Mort | Ladies Who Lounge

La Petite Mort | Ladies Who LoungeLa Petite Mort is a one-woman cabaret show performed by Isabel Hertaeg, a dynamic singer out to tease, thrill and entertain. The theme of the evening is sex and Isabel goes about listing statistics, busting myths and revealing little-known facts and figures about the subject to link and lead into known songs (and some less common numbers) in order to help the audience laugh, cry and make some sense of the show.

Some of the songs were show-stoppers, loved by the audience and delivered particularly well by Isabel. “Fuck Her Gently” by Tenacious D and “Did I Shave My Legs For This” by Deanna Carter are great songs in their own right and received a great response, as did “I Spent My Last Ten Bucks” by 2 Nice Girls. Whereas, other songs seemed out of place and confused the audience as to why they were included: “Colour and Light” from Sondheim’s musical “Sunday in the Park with George” is a wonderful song, but how does it fit into a funny, sexy, sultry cabaret show which includes another song about the different names for penises?

The final song, “Lion Tamer” also seemed a mystery and left the audience wondering how the dots were connected.

Selection of songs aside, Isabel can certainly stand, sing and deliver. After taking a song or two to warm up and allow the audience to warm to her, she grew increasingly likeable as the show progressed. She included us in her anecdotes and arguments and, via her strong voice, sense of fun and witty lyrics, reeled the audience in time and time again to enjoy the ride with her.

With a stronger arc or script, this wonderful performer would be even more engaging, not that the full house was complaining as they left the auditorium still laughing, having been fully entertained.
