The Adventures of Butt Boy and Tigger | Out Cast TheatreThe Adventures of Butt Boy and Tigger is as strange as the name suggests – a Boy's Own style foray into the on-line sexual fantasies of two gay men.

Coming direct from sell out crowds at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Perth Pride Butt Boy and Tigger is not likely to be everyone’s cup of tea. It is described as “disgraceful production” … “in all its wicked glory”. If you find sexual fantasies, gay or heterosexual, embarrassing then this is a play to be side-stepped.

Otherwise Steven Dawson’s play, part of Adelaide’s Feast Festival, is funny, quirky, and touching thanks to the warm-hearted performances of Felix Allsop as Tigger and Angus Brown as Butt Boy.

“Butt Boy” and “Tigger” are the on-line aliases for two young men who meet on the net and proceed to share their fantasies of orgasmic proportions.

Allsop is adroit as Tigger whose quicksilver wit and self-deprecating humour boast a bravado that is clearly a façade for deeper feelings.

Brown is a delight as the naïve Butt Boy who blossoms on the receiving end of Tigger’s tutelage.

The on-line meeting and ensuing sexual fantasies provide some insights into the underlying personalities of both young men, but are mostly just silly and funny. After a while it is easy to share Butt Boy’s longing for something other than meaningless sex. As a result it is really the end of the hour-long show that appeals, speaking a universal language as two humans reach out to each other. It is here that Butt Boy and Tigger meet off-line and become Jamie and Matt and the possibilities emerge for exploring a relationship beyond sexual fantasy.

The final sweet and tenderhearted moments are the crowning glory of this play transforming the two cartoon-like characters from virtual reality into people whose hopes for love and intimacy can be universally recognized.
