Director of the Soundstream Contemporary Music Ensemble, Gabriella Smart is pleased to announce the Adelaide Contemporary Music Festival to be held over the weekend of 4-6th April 2008. Celebrating new classical music from around the world, the Festival is being presented by Soundstream Contemporary Music Ensemble in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre.
The Festival presents a kaleidoscope of new classical music from Australia, Europe and Asia, featuring both works written in the 1950s and premieres by emerging and established Australian and international composers. Featured composers include Adelaide’s pioneer of electronic music Tristram Cary, emerging Adelaide composer Anne Cawrse, Andrew Ford, Roger Smalley, Dutch composer Willem Jeth, Australian Greek composer Constantine Koukias, Russians Sofia Gubaidalina and Alfred Schnittke, and Korean In-Sun Cho.
Performing the works is a talented lineup of acclaimed musicians from Australia, Amsterdam and Asia, many of whom have performed in the world’s major contemporary music festivals. The lineup includes the Grainger Quartet, Amsterdam-based Telesto Duo, pianist Gabriella Smart, soprano Greta Bradman and Trio d'anche Suave with Seung-Eun Lee, principal oboist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
“As a pianist specialising in the performance of new music it has been my vision for many years to establish a festival of this kind in Adelaide showcasing Australian works alongside international icons”, said Gabriella Smart.
Comprising three individual concerts, as well as a unique composer forum, over three days, the Adelaide Contemporary Music Festival has a strong international focus and brings a unique event to Adelaide.
