'One of the best new Australian works...funny and nastily bleak...textually dazzling' Sydney Morning
Drink, lustful decorating and baking and a strange reenactment of Jack and the Beanstalk are all the bizarre ingredients in the revival of this critically acclaimed surreal comedy MIXD DRINX showing at the Sydney artist run performance space Old 505 Theatre.
Premiering in 2002, it was a hit with critics and audience alike. Ten years later, the show is back exploring the darker side of relationships as two dysfunctional couples lust for each other's partners in a strange run down bar ruled over by a demonic barman.
The surreal comedy explores the jaded side of relationships losing their way where the men redirect sexual passion into decorating and baking and the women flirt with lesbianism.
'Sean O'Riordan's edgy, surreal comedy is laugh-out-loud funny, sharply written and profound...'
'This is a stimulating, young, abrasive, confrontational show...the cutting edge of contempoary fringe theatre' North Shore Times
Barestage Theatre and The Collective is thrilled that the comedy show is once more up and running at an exciting Sydney venue with a vibrant new cast. "The play explores that part of our desires that we try to keep a lid on but under the influence of alcohol and a strange, menacing barman the two couples abandon all restraint. Let's just say they really get into baking and decorating", said Writer/Director Sean O'Riordan.
