PERSONAL POLITICAL PHYSICAL CHALLENGE

Personal Political Physical Challenge SMLER.jpgPerth’s ground breaking performance company Hydra Poesis bring their acclaimed Personal Political Physical Challenge to the Malthouse Theatre as part of the Helium season. One of five works selected from over 400 entries, Personal Political Physical Challenge features dance, theatre and performance art in a 360 degree twist on the suburban melodrama.

The work follows a couple trying to reignite the fire of their relationship through a series of excercises in their garage. Rather than employing the usual strategies, the couple attempt instead a provocative and very adult version of the childhood game of risk: truth, dare, physical challenge. And in the surreal logic of the performance, obscure occupiers are drawn to their front lawn like moths to a flame. Personal Political Physical Challenge is a unique, high stakes, double-bind experience.

The Hydra Poesis team includes direction by Sam Fox – recently awarded one of the inaugural Sidney Myer Creative Fellowships, an ensemble cast led by Rachel Ogle and James Welsby, and an exquisite original score by Perth’s own woman-Korg-laptop-matrix Stina.
