KING LEAR
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Stephen Lee
Shakespeare's most intensely poetic play examines the themes of ingratitude, madness and blindness, both physical and moral: we dress ourselves in fine clothes, hiding the evil, hypocrisy
and self-serving vices beneath folds of gold and silver. In this chilling play, Shakespeare strips away the layers of civilisation and social conventions, revealing man as the "bare, forked animal" he ultimately is. A bleak, disturbing, yet rivetingly powerful depiction of the consequences that flow from a selfish old man's desire to be told how much his children love him.
