Gala Concert | launch Kookaburra: The National Music Theatre Company

A cavalcade of stars will come together to launch Kookaburra: The National Music Theatre Company into the Melbourne Market in a Gala Concert to be held at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Monday 8 September.

Artists from each generation of Musical Theatre will perform songs from the world’s favourite musicals that have graced Australian stages over the past 40 years.

Matt Lee (So You Think You Can Dance), Rachael Beck (It Take Two), Ian Stenlake (Sea Patrol), Rob Mills (Wicked), Sharon Millerchip (Sweet Charity), Lucinda Shaw (Spamalot) and VoxSynergy (Battle of the Choirs) now join Julie Anthony A.M., O.B.E, Nancye Hayes, Marina Prior, Peter Cousens, Rhonda Burchmore, Caroline Gillmer, Anne Wood, Silvie Paladino, Lucy Durack, Chloe Dallimore, Matt Robinson, Kane Alexander, Michael Falzon, David Harris and Bert La Bonte.

“Our expansion to Melbourne is a major step for Kookaburra. It shows, after only two years of operation, our commitment to becoming Australia’s permanent, national musical theatre arts company,” said Peter Cousens, Founder, CEO & Artistic Director, Kookaburra: The National Musical Theatre Company

“We are delighted to be able to showcase, in one great night, the breadth of talent we have right here in Australia and celebrate this great art form.” Cousens said.

Money raised will go towards supporting Kookaburra – a not-for-profit arts company – to educate, engage and entertain all Australians and fund its ancillary community initiatives: Kookaburra Kids, The Nest and Kookaburra Touring.

Kookaburra Kids’ latest initiative, the ‘Discover the Theatre’ program, has already taken 40 kids from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds to the theatre for the very first time – for many, a life-changing experience. Now, Melbourne-based productions will be added to that list.
