Its Not Big, Its Not Clever | Mark Butler Print E-mail

Mark ButlerIt’s Not Big, It’s Not Clever, part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, is stand-up comic Mark Butler’s foray into the wicked world of swearing.

Butler is from the UK and has a nice, warm, meandering delivery style, albeit a little blokey. The content of It’s Not Big, It’s Not Clever comes across as part info-tainment, part travel log. Clearly he has researched his topic and he has a lot of enthusiasm for it.

Having watched the entire-series-so-far of HBO’s Deadwood (it’s fantastic), I must say I am not so easily moved by swearing. This is a show that will be enjoyed more by people who think swearing in public is naughty.

Mark Butler’s It’s Not Big, It’s Not Clever, at Loop Bar in the city, is in part a commentary on modern cultures.  It is a funny, informative, polished show, with a fairly mainstream perspective. I love the title.
