I was there at opening night in the back row and remember overhearing you mention that you were reviewing for this site Heather. Firstly, Congratulations on your first review. However I do entirely believe it is rather too generous.

"Clare is an exceptional actress – not only incredibly beautiful but a true chameleon, her ability to change costume, set, character and accent in a matter of seconds is simply incredible. What's perhaps most pivotal though is that she is utterly believable and committed to every aspect of each character, presenting an in-depth knowledge of their individual personalities."

She is certainly beautiful but definitely had obvious struggles with some of her characters. Her young model and Upper Class English woman were excellent and at times mesmerising, yet often her accents were a little off putting. At one point she sounded like Zoidberg from the cartoon Futurama. Obviously given the intimacy of the theatre we were given great access to the actors every expression and nuance, however the grins and winks each actor gave each other following a scene suggested a somewhat student comraderie ('Smile, well does us' for example) and ultimately upset the fluidity of the play. I certainly don't think the happy expressions were those of the characters! The ending was excellent, and probably not seen before given the unique placement of the Owl and the Pussycat. I was fortunate to see Marcus Graham and Sigrid Thornton perform the play for the MTC some years ago, and whilst that was a superior production, I found this to be very enjoyable. Good luck with future reviews. - Tim
