Job Description YOUNG ACTORS STUDIO BRISBANE

Applications are now open for NIDA’s Young Actors Studio in Brisbane, a one year part-time course for young actors aged 16-20 years, commencing in February 2008.

With a focus on developing performance skills for the theatre, film and television industry, the course provides students with the unique opportunity to work with some leading industry professionals and experienced NIDA tutors including Scott Johnson (Neighbours, Blue Heelers, Home and Away, Jessica, Big Sky, McLeod’s Daughters and Razzle Dazzle) and Zoe Houghton (Belvoir St Theatre, Stepfather of the Bride and Footy Legends)

Many of the young performing arts professionals from the course have gone onto full-time acting courses or industry careers.  With Young Actors Studio graduate Lucinda Shaw scoring the hotly contested starring role in Spamalot, and graduate Rose Byrne carving an impressive international career it’s clear that Young Actors Studio is fantastic training for committed young performers.

All applicants are required to attend an audition. Auditions will be held at 10.00am Sunday 3 February 2008, at Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Southbank.

Young Actors Studio has been running at NIDA in Sydney since 1993. Given its popularity, NIDA Open Program has conducted the course in Melbourne and Brisbane in 2006 & 2007, with great success. The course provides specialist tuition in a variety of acting styles, and provides participants with the opportunity to work with other talented young people in an ensemble; devising theatre, rehearsing scenes and performing in a production at the end of the year.

Over 70 young people auditioned for the 2007 NIDA Young Actors Studio in Brisbane with 18 successful applicants.   These students recently performed in their graduating production A Dream Play at the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC directed by Andrea Moor.
