AHOY THERE!

White Whale is a independent company captained by a small group of young Ahabs.  Born in 2004 at the University of Melbourne, the Whale soon abandoned safe waters for the foaming vortex of the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe.  Accompanied by 24 young Australian theatre-makers, they presented David Mence’s Shakespearean zombie-epic Macbeth Re-Arisen which quickly became a cult hit of the festival. Chain-saws, severed hands and ghouls mix seamlessly with soliloquies, poetic metaphors and epic heroes. In November White Whale Theatre will be re-mounting Macbeth Re-Arisen and seeks an experienced and reliable stage manager. White Whale is devoted to salt-encrusted, brine-soaked theatre – stories 

squeegeed from the scungy mizzen-masts of myth, wrung from the sperm-oil lamps of literature and strained from the barnacled hulls of history.  We value local spaces and modern Australian voices and seek to draw on diversity and oceanic depths of creativity.  Our medium is new text-based theatre and our goal is to fill the void left by major companies who have chosen not to prioritise the development of Australian works.
