Are you a theatrical writer looking for opportunity? Do you want to create new, fresh and exciting writing? Longing to be part of Sydney’s independent theatre scene?
Do you want to spend this summer holiday being bitter at the world, cooped up and wondering when you’ll get to perform again? Or would you rather welcome in the holiday season in the theatre, creating and sharing new works, entertaining audiences and ending the year as an artist!?
As a cast we have just finished an extremely successful run of ‘True Times Three,’ by ‘Subtlenuance’ productions. We ran from the 29th of July to the 17th of August at the Tap Gallery, drawing critical acclaim. A review of our previous work can be read here… http://www.australianstage.com.au/reviews/sydney/true-times-three--subtlenuance-1723.html
As a new work ‘True Times Three' was a great success and as a cast we are not hesitating in creating a new project…’Santa Sucks Cane’. We wish to create a night of four new one-act plays, all with a Christmas theme, open to anyone who considers themselves a local writer. Think ANYTHING; comedy, drama, satire etc. We only ask for small casts, simple to stage, and running no longer than 30 minutes. Let’s give people something a little different to think about this Christmas. J
Although in the initial stages, we plan to run over two weeks of December. To get started, we ask for all submissions of interest to be made by Thursday, Sep 18th. All final drafts will be due by October 1st. After October 1st, we will choose a shortlist of pieces. If needed, we will hold a day or night where everyone is invited, and the pieces will be read aloud and voted upon to find the final four.
If you submit, don’t be afraid. Let us know who you are, any background you have, and what you’re thinking of writing. Feel free to pitch ideas, or send anything you might need feedback on. If you’re a seasoned pro, or just have something funny to say about Xmas…we want to hear from you.
We gained some huge exposure, great acclaim and opportunity from ‘True Times Three, and we believe there are writers out there looking for the same chance to be heard. We are passionate about moving forward, creating new theatre and finding new writers to come along with us, making this a great Christmas season in the theatre.
Feel free to contact us, or send submissions to newoneacts@gmail.com
