Jazz Meets the Symphony is a Grammy Award-winning project that teams Lalo Schifrin with legendary Australian Jazz trumpeter James Morrison for a masterful coming together of symphonic and jazz worlds with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra on the Friday 6 and Saturday 7 July at the Perth Concert Hall.
Lalo Schifrin is a true Renaissance man. As a pianist, composer and conductor, he is equally at home conducting a symphony orchestra, performing at an international jazz festival, scoring a film or
television show, or creating works for the London Philharmonic. Schifrin has recorded with the greatest names in jazz and has composed more than 100 scores for film and television, including the famous Mission Impossible theme.
The Jazz Meets the Symphony concerts thrill audiences with their vitality and colour. The program includes Schifrin’s arrangements of Echoes of Duke Ellington, El Salon México, Birdland and Portrait of Louis Armstrong.
For these two special concerts Schifrin will combine with one of Australia’s foremost jazz virtuosos, James Morrison. Morrison has phenomenal skill and musicianship and has performed worldwide to critical acclaim.
Jazz Meets the Symphony is part of the Ernst & Young Contempo Series.
"Even more impressive than Morrison's massive technique is the way he builds wonderfully melodic solo masterpieces: It's like Stan Getz on the trumpet." Jose Brown in "The Times Tribune California"
“Schifrin is a musician of exceptional imagination and skill.” Los Angeles Times
