Producers Phil Bathols Tim Woods & QPAC are proud to announce that Frank Woodley will make his first stage appearance since departing legendary comedy duo Lano and Woodley as the star of a brand new production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) which is to premiere at the Cremorne Theatre QPAC on Friday April 20, 2007.
Complete Works was written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield and first performed by the RSC (the Reduced Shakespeare Company). After taking the show to the Edinburgh Festival in 1987 the RSC toured around the world and subsequently settled into a record-breaking 9 year run at London’s Criterion Theatre. Australian cast productions have been touring since 1999 to unanimous acclaim with multiple sellout seasons throughout Australia and groundbreaking seasons in New Zealand, Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Macau, India and Hong Kong.
Complete Works is a riotous feast of comedy involving impro, overacting, slapstick, mime and comical death scenes. It’s an hilarious roller coaster ride through all of Shakespeare’s comedies, histories and tragedies featuring just three actors. It’s fast funny and accessible entertainment. “The bard without the boring bits” The Age
In Shakespearian tradition the Complete Works is reworked with every production reflecting both current events and local issues and the personalities of the actors who play themselves in the daunting (some would say impossible) task of presenting all of the Bard’s works in a single evening.
Frank Woodley will perform the roles of Juliet, Benvolio, Tybalt, Lavinia, Othello, Macduff, Cleopatra, Ghost, Gertrude, Soothsayer, Henry IV, Ophelia, Bernado, and Claudius. The roles of Romeo, a witch, Friar Laurence, Juliet’s nurse, Richard II, King Lear, Horatio, Polonius and Laertes will be performed by brilliant comedy artist Damian Callinan from Skithouse, Rove and The Wedge whilst New Zealand performer Keith Adams will play Hamlet, Titus, Macbeth, Mark Antony and King John.
The funniest show you are likely to see in your entire lifetime” The Daily Telegraph
This is an incomparable assault on the Bard that will leave you weak with the exertion of helpless laughter.
“The show is fresh, irreverent, magnificently entertaining and accessible” – The Age
The Complete Works will inspire the Shakespearean novice and entertain the veteran but most of all it’s a comedy not to be missed by anyone…“Inspired lunacy” – The Sunday Telegraph
