The Sex & Science of Boredom | Sam Simmons Print
Sam SimmonsSam Simmons is quite unlike anyone else in the comedy world.  The former zookeeper has one foot firmly planted in the soils of reality, and the other rooted deep into the psyche of being silly.

Sam returns to the Melbourne Comedy Festival this year with a fresh take on the absurd and a brand new show, The Sex And Science of Boredom. His 2006 Festival offering Tales of the Erotic Cat played to sell-out houses, rave reviews and picked up a prestigious nomination for the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show.

This year, the cat is back, in his most daring and brilliant show yet. Boredom (meaning) is a reactive state of emotion that interprets the condition of one's environment as wearingly dull due to repetitive, non-existent or tedious stimuli.  Often it is a clearly subjective state; one person may find a classical music concert "boring," for example, while another may find it “riveting”…this is a story about the latter.

Earth 2006.
In any office, in any city, an army of navy pinstriped suits sit in cubicles clicking away at keyboards…in windings.  In any suburban home, bored mothers are watching mid morning television counting calories, contemplating maybe a packet of dehydrated soup…or a bottle chardonnay.

What happened? Why is everything so beige? Golf, pigeons, home renovation TV shows, dropping a five-cent piece and losing your car keys… This is the sex and science of boredom.

When he is not contemplating the ridiculous, Sam can be heard on Triple J, presenting the “Tuck Shop” overnight on Saturday nights, as well as tending the animals at Taronga Zoo.

“*****…comedy super stardom,”
The Age

“You will find yourself traipsing home after the show wondering how you lived your whole life without him and knowing you’ll never be the same again,” Inpress Magazine

“Boredom comes from a boring mind,”  Metallica
