To open the 2007 theatre season the Clocktower Centre presents Co-opera’s production of the Cole Porter classic Kiss Me, Kate. This legendary musical version of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew is one of the most famous musical adaptations of Shakespeare for the stage and screen.
This delightful musical is about a theatre company putting on a musical version of The Taming of The Shrew and the feuding antics of leading man Fred Graham and his temperamental ex-wife and leading lady, Lilli Vanessi. Respectively, they portray the Shakespearean roles of Petruchio and Katherine the Shrew.
Co-Opera’s production of Kiss Me, Kate
is based on the recently revised version, which re-instates much of the
original script that was cut from the 1948 stage production and the
1953 film.
Co-opera is an Adelaide based production
company that has established itself as a producer of consistently high
quality touring productions that have received excellent reviews.
“…delightful entertainment …highly professional company…” The Age
“…sparkling entertainment…” Herald Sun
“…immensely talented … a joy to watch and listen to..” Canberra Times
Kiss Me, Kate stars Lynnette Harris (Lilli/Katherine) and Jeremy Tatchell (Fred/Petruchio) and is directed by Frank Ford AM with musical direction by Brian Chatterton OAM.
