The play had a reading at La Mama Theatre in May 2007, was the La Mama entry that year in the prestigious Wal Cherry Award and is at the Carlton Courthouse Theatre from 3 December 2008 to 20 December 2008.
The central story belongs to Paul whose personal and professional life as a barrister begins to unravel on the very day of his greatest success. Everybody is careless with the truth and everybody will do whatever it takes to cover their tracks. Who can we ever really trust? Will Paul’s life ever be the same again? And will he pay the cost to get things back the way they were?
Careless is a beautifully observed look at the way humans surrender what they don’t realize they need, to get what they think they want.
This is Russell Rigby’s fi rst produced play, although he has written previous pieces, including one short-listed by the Australian National Playwrights Conference. Russell works as a lawyer in Melbourne.
John Higginson worked and studied in London and New York where he acted with many respected actors and directors, acting at the Chichester Festival under the directorship of Sir Patrick Garland and directing for the Festival Studio Company. More recently, as an actor he has appeared in The Master Builder, Blue Heelers and directed Almost Maine, Francis Kiss, Misdirected, Self for La Mama, Room To Grow for Channel 31 and various TV commercials. John continues to act, direct, coach and teach acting and voice over at Rehearsal Room.

Paul’s credits include Satisfaction 2, City Homicide and the feature fi lm, Erskineville Kings;
Silas James
Silas’ credits include Neighbours and working with the Australian Shakespeare Company; and
Deborah Tabone
Deborah’s credits include appearing as Tiffany in Underbelly.
