Following the success of their sell-out May 2008 production of The Wedding Singer, rehearsals are well underway for Williamstown Musical Theatre Company’s next hit production Into the Woods. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine this award-winning musical is to be staged in November.
With a cast of 20 talented performers from all corners of Melbourne, Into the Woods is a must see musical providing you with more than enough sound and light, colour and intrigue, to constitute a full night’s entertainment.
When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell. Swindling, lying to and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red and Rapunzel.
Everyone's wish is granted at the end of Act One, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later, with disastrous results. What begins as a lively irreverent fantasy in the style of “The Princess Bride” becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.
Director Anna Marinelli says, “The show covers multiple themes: growing up,
parents and children, accepting responsibility, morality and finally, wish fulfilment
and its consequences. We have created an illusion of mystery, fantasy, fear and
intrepidation that may face all of us when we are presented with the unknown
of what occurs when we may dare to venture “Into The Woods”!!!!
