Sherry-Anne Hayes and Adam Mitchell, with Music Director Tim Cunniffe
Who didn’t once wish they could sing like Doris Day, or look like her or, on the other hand, that they could marry the girl with the wholesome girl-next-door image?
Once described as the most gifted performer of her time - the 1950s and ’60s - Doris sang, danced and acted her way through nearly 40 films and recorded around 45 albums, becoming famous in film musicals like Pajama Game and Calamity Jane. She was paired with Hollywood hunk Rock Hudson and they are considered by many as the greatest comedy team in the history of film.
Music theatre performer Sherry -Anne Hayes invites cabaret artist Adam Mitchell to be her Rock in this rollercoaster ride through some of Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff’s most famous songs, such as ‘Que Sera, Sera’, ‘Secret Love’, 'By the Light of the Silvery Moon' and ‘Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps’.
Adam Mitchell is Associate Director at Black Swan Theatre Company, and Sherry-Anne has had a busy, international life, writing, producing and performing, in the years since completing WAAPA’s music theatre certificate course. This is not the first time she’s dipped into glorious nostalgia. Sherry-Anne recently wrote a cabaret show, Swing Time with the Andrews Sisters which played DownStairs at the Maj to sold out houses.
This Morning Melodies music celebration is from perhaps a decade later when Doris Day was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
