The Thank You Dinner: A Feast to Remember | Ensemble Theatre Print
When Roger Lovely (Reg Livermore) has to go away on business for a month he throws himself on the mercy of his neighbours asking them to look after his three children while he is out of town. When he returns from his trip he hosts a dinner party to thank his neighbours for the care they have taken of his beloved Dorothy, Nicholas and Birdy. And so, in appreciation of the kindness of his friends Roger (lovingly) prepares a meal of Bollito Misto, using extraordinary ingredients.

Reg Livermore is a founding member of the Ensemble Theatre and he is thrilled to be returning to the Ensemble stage (which he helped to build) in its 50th anniversary year with a strictly limited season of his latest work. Renowned as a performer, writer and director, Reg’s previous productions of Wish You Were Here and Red Riding Hood, The Speed Hump and The Wolf were sold out on their initial and return seasons at the Ensemble Theatre. The Thank You Dinner introduces his latest character, the larger than life, Rose Bay resident, Roger Lovely.

Widely acknowledged as one of the most significant figures of the Australian theatre in the twentieth century, Livermore has enjoyed a career spanning more than fifty years. From the founding of Ensemble Theatre in 1958, to the ground-breaking era of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show, through Betty Blokk Buster Follies and the significant catalogue of Livermore’s now legendary one man shows, to his stints on national television since the 1960’s including as reporter for the popular infotainment programs Burke’s Backyard (2 years) and Our House (9 years) to his most recent starring roles back on stage in The Producers, The Gondoliers, Pirates of Penzance and My Fair Lady, Reg’s journey has been phenomenal and his achievements unique.

‘…an exercise in darkly comic storytelling…Livermore inhabits these people beautifully, effortlessly switching between characters…consummate performance…’ SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

(Reviews for RED RIDING HOOD THE SPEED HUMP AND THE WOLF)
‘You watch a performer of this calibre ratchet up the excitement level to such a pitch, each night, and keep it there, and it sets a standard you measure things against forever.’ SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

‘It is an extraordinary privilege to see one of his performances and a mystery why he does not do more of them.’ THE AUSTRALIAN

‘Steal someone’s tickets if you have to but don’t miss it.’ THE SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
