David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries - the truly hilarious and bizarre account of the year he took a temp job as an elf at Macy’s in New York. Obnoxious children, ferocious mothers, miscast Santas and the seamier side of holiday retail. These are the Santaland Diaries. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once thousands of visitors start pouring through Santaland, we see the true spirit of Christmas.
David Sedaris, the award-winning humourist, comedian and best-selling author, first rose to fame in 1992 when his Santaland Diaries essay was broadcast on America’s National Public Radio and was an immediate hit with listeners. He has since published several volumes of hilarious essays, all of which made the New York Times Best Sellers list. David was recently in Melbourne for a sold out reading as part of this year's Melbourne Writers Festival. For those who fell in love with him, here’s your chance to treat yourself to this staggering work of comic holiday genius live on stage.
Melbourne's own improv and comedy legend Russell Fletcher stars in this premiere of the Santaland Diaries. Fletch will don the tights and tunic of Crumpet the elf in this comic anti-holiday cult classic.
Since its creation, this show has become a holiday favourite in the UK, America and Canada. For the first time, Melbourne audiences can ditch the Nutcracker, mute White Christmas and have a frozen Christmas daiquiri while laughing their way through one of the wittiest holiday confections ever concocted.
