On the 27th December 1853, Dickens gave his first public performance of A Christmas Carol. Every single character had “a different voice, a different style, a different face" (The Cambridge Independent Press -- 1859). Dickens was a superstar. The acclaim was deafening, and during the last 17 years of his life Dickens gave 444 solo performances of his work in Great Britain, the United States and on the Continent. - Now he is back and on tour.
Working from the original prompt copy, including directions in the author's handwriting, Performer Phil Zachariah and Director James Adler have created an "outstanding performance . . . every member of the audience was transfixed" (Anne-Marie Peard, AussieTheatre.com -- 2006). “Zachariah becomes Dickens and does not so much read A Christmas Carol as become the story.” (Kate Rose, Sunday Herald Sun -- 2005)"...his authority over the role and the audience is complete” (Melbourne Stage Online -- 2006)
Since 2003 this production has defied expectations, touring the east coast of Australia to standing ovations and sold-out houses. This Christmas across Victoria and in the Famous Spiegeltent, this uproariously funny, profoundly moving story of redemption is the one show not to miss
