Share the joy of the Christmas season with the sensational 34 piece Adelaide Art Orchestra, the inspirational 12 part Adelaide Vocal Project, conducted by Timothy Sexton, and starring the exceptional talents of multi-ARIA award winning Christine Anu and star of stage and screen Tim Campbell, as they perform favourite festive music and carols for young and old in Adelaide Festival Centre Christmas Proms on 12 – 13 December in the Festival Theatre.
You’ll also experience a unique treat with the orchestra and chorus performing masterworks with the mighty Festival Theatre Silver Jubilee Organ! Filled with traditional Yuletide musical treasures, and some very special surprises, this concert is a musical treat for the whole family.
Come and get into the Christmas spirit with all of your favourite carols, including We Need A Little Christmas, Silent Night, the majestic Hark the Herald Angels Sing, popular masterworks and many more! The matinee performance on 12 December has sold out, but tickets are still available for 12 and 13 December.
Christine Anu is arguably Australia’s most successful indigenous performer and one of Australia’s most popular recording artists, backed by an award-winning repertoire spanning across music, theatre, dance, film, television and children’s entertainment. Over her illustrious career, Christine has showcased her amazing vocal talents in many major events staged in Australia, including 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Sydney Paralympics, FINA World Swimming Championships, 50 Years of Television, 25th Anniversary Carols in the Domain and the 2007 APEC Cultural Performance. She has also performed at the G’Day Australia Celebrations in Los Angeles and New York.
Tim Campbell is a natural all-round entertainer, he sings, acts and presents with easy knockabout warmth and infectious style. Best known to Australian audiences as Dan Baker on Home and Away and as a runner-up in Dancing with the Stars, he enjoyed critical praise and standing ovations in the lead role of Johnny O’Keefe in the hit musical SHOUT, and has called the Bingo numbers on Seven's National Bingo Night, spun the Wheel on Nine's Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune and and is currently hosting Celebrity Singing Bee on the Nine Network.
Making their return after a successful 2007 Adelaide Festival Centre Christmas Proms performance are the Adelaide Art Orchestra and the popular Adelaide Vocal Project. Founded in 2001 by Artistic Director Timothy Sexton and concertmaster Carolyn Lam, the Adelaide Art Orchestra is a regular feature in Adelaide's dynamic music scene, with 2008 engagements including the Kiev Ballet's Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty, a highly acclaimed regional tour of the radio show Glenn Miller and Friends, performances with David Campbell for the Clipsal State Dinner and the Cancer Council's Blue Ball, Broadway in the Barracks at Port Augusta, the Greek Odyssey concert and multiple events in the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
As well as the popular radio style shows with the Adelaide Art Orchestra in concert, live broadcast and critically acclaimed performances of contemporary music, Adelaide Vocal Project’s major achievement over several years has been the award-winning, new Australian productions of Philip Glass’ operas Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha and Akhnaten, in partnership with Leigh Warren & Dancers and State Opera.
