Australia’s Premier Theatre Touring Company, HIT Productions is pleased
to announce the 2008 – 2009 national tour of Jeanie Linders’ Menopause
the Musical.
Since 2001, Menopause the Musical, has entertained and inspired women from coast-to-coast and internationally.
Inspired by ‘a hot flush and a bottle of wine,’ Jeanie Linders created
the hilarious musical as a celebration of a life passage that launches
women into an exciting new phase of their lives.
This 90 minute, one act laugh-a-thon features 25 re-lyricised tunes
from the 60s and 70s including The Great Pretender, Only You, The Lion
Sleeps Tonight, Stand by Your Man, I Will Survive.
Set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in
common but a black lace bra meet by chance. The musical pokes fun at
things such as hot flashes, memory loss, mood swings, wrinkles, night
sweats and eating binges. The show's intended message is that menopause
is a passage, but it should no longer be the silent passage, it’s a
stage in every woman's life that is perfectly normal.
“It’s impossible not to laugh” - The New York Times
“Absolutely hilarious” - The Age
The amazing cast includes Vivien Davies as Soap Star, one of
Australia’s leading ladies of theatre, Maria Mercedes as Power Woman,
Pop Queen Angela Ayers in the role of Dubbo Housewife and the energetic
Cindy Pritchard as Earth Mother. Our four leading ladies will be under
the accomplished direction of Gary Young.
“Most women know intuitively that every other woman is experiencing
memory loss, night sweats, or hot flushes but when they are in a
theatre with hundreds of women – not just a few sympathetic friends -
and all are laughing and shouting ‘that’s me’ then they know what they
are experiencing is normal. They aren’t crazy. It becomes a
sisterhood.” Jeanie Linders, Playwright
Jeanie Linders’ Menopause the Musical national tour will take the
production to over 80 capital city, metropolitan and regional and
remote theatre venues Australia wide.
