Hitlerhoff - on at the Melbourne Fringe Festival until Saturday 11 October.
This labour of love has been almost two years in the researching /
writing / making - and has taken me to the Berlin Wall, Auschwitz, and
the deepest, darkest corners of the internets.
Please come along and see this theatre spectacular! As well as the combined life stories of David Hasselhoff and Adolf Hitler, Hitlerhoff has plenty for the highbrow thespian crowd: reworked nuggets of Hamlet, The Crucible, Waiting For Godot ... and Waiting For Godot II: Return of the Godot.
And for the pop-culture crowd, there is a wild audio-visual onslaught, with a magic 2d/3d screen featuring Baywatch, Saturday Night Fever, Ben Hur, even (and of course) The Sound of Music ...
I don't want to talk the play up TOO much, but I do think that Hitlerhoff makes some profound points about the role of the egotistic individual within western civilisation. But don't take my word for it - this is what the Age said:
"a whirlwind tour of fake tan and moustaches [...] Tobias
Manderson-Galvin is unstoppable in the title role [...] His supporting
cast, Simone Page Jones and Ezra Bix, is no less
formidable. This is an incredible undertaking [...] a show whose
speedos are bulging with gags. Writer Tom Doig has produced a clever,
funny and outrageous play.
Have no doubt; this is where the cool kids will be this Fringe
Festival."
... if you're not convinced by those hyperbolic review, perhaps you need to watch our making-of Hitlerhoff mockumentary?
...or read the intellectually rigorous discourses available at www.hitlerhoff.wordpress.com?
Please email me on hitlerhoff @ gmail.com if you have any questions. Hope to see you at the North Melbourne Town Hall!
Regards,
Tom Doig
