An Actor Prepares takes us into the emotional and intellectual journey of a suicide bomber. The trigger is pulled and the songs and stories of life unravel reminding us of the raging corners and turns that the heart and the head can take as a repercussion of voicelessness and powerlessness. By the end of the show danger is no longer the ticking clock, it is more likely the feeling that we may just understand the tune of the bomber's song and may even want to sing along.
Depending on who you believe it's either bloody amazing or bloody awful:
"So bad it could become a cult" (Samela Harris Adelaide Advertiser 2008)
"Word for word it is a mighty script: poetic, slippery and dramatic. Its subject is art and politics, theatre and terrorism; in short making one’s self heard. It’s a parable about talent and responsibility…deceptively simple and devastatingly effective... (The Malthouse’s production of) Sajko’s Woman bomb paled in comparison."
"a trip through time - musically guiding the audience’s urban raft. Heartbreakingly simple and heavy with memory... Hanging Druidic runes; shorn tree stumps and a white-robed and bearded Mr. Adler all summon up a mystical, religious experience. I couldn’t help but feel witchcraft hanging in the air..."
