Legend Vs Legend
A play by Steven McGrath
Parnassus' Den
Old Fitzroy Theatre
129 Dowling Street, Woolloomooloo
7:30PM, $10/8
Directed by Bill Young
Alfred Hitchcock is the most recognised film director in the history of cinema. More people wrote to James Dean after he died than when he was alive. Who could imagine the results if these two great legends collaborated? Two struggling actors dare to find out, as they step into the shoes of the “Master of Suspense” and the “Rebel Without a Cause”. Their chaotic friendship is held together by their obsession with greatness, long lunches at McDonalds and nights in the pub practising male bonding. Trapped in an eternal cycle of life imitating art imitating life, the curse of playing dead legends is sweetened only by the deadly blonde who comes between them.
They are misled through a minefield of ego clashes by their greedy advisors as they battle addiction, obsession and each other. Two actors armed with egos of mass destruction in the mother of all wars. Yet it’s only basic training as they march towards the crossroads of fame and senility.
