Arrebato Ensemble announce two new performances, hot on the heels of a
sell out at the Australian Chamber Music Festival performance in
Townsville, and a Sydney show described by Australian Stage Online as
“many moments of veritable genius”.
Formed only three years ago, the talented virtuosos of the Arrebato
Ensemble have already established themselves as a refreshing and
exciting force within the Australian music industry.
This is thanks to their thrilling performances of compelling and unique
original music with a rhythmic and emotive driving force based on
contemporary flamenco.
The collaboration of band members Greg Alfonzetti, Damian de
Boos-Smith, Dave Ellis, Lloyd Gyi and Andrew Poniris has created a
passionately moving style of music with an intensely international
flavour, appealing to many audiences from the flamenco aficionado to
jazz, world and chamber music fans.
Drawing together an incredible diversity in styles and sounds, Arrebato
has an instrumental lineup that includes flamenco guitar, cello, double
bass, saxophones, percussion, harmonica, flute, oud, mandolin and
palmas (hand clapped rhythms).
As well as thrilling audiences over recent years, the group also
received critical acclaim for their 2007 debut CD ARREBATO (Vitamin
Records).
Giving it 4 ½ stars, John Shand wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald that
the Arrebato Ensemble “…moves from pure flamenco in favour of a more
contemporary style, the spirit, a dramatic sexually charged and haughty
sadness remains in tact.”
