The Kaleidoscope Ensemble, together with members of the Juniper Chamber Orchestra and narrator Peter Holland, present a veritable feast of music and stories featuring the Australian Premiere of the English translation of the text written by German humorist, cartoonist, writer, actor, Loriot (Vicco von Bulow) set to Saint Saens most popular composition, The Carnival of the Animals.
In another ‘first’, Kaleidoscope will perform the World Premiere of Edward the Emu by South Australian composer Peter Webb, inspired by Sheena Knowles’ and Rod Clement’s classic Australian story. Rob Evison will appear as Edward and Ella Hetherington as Edwina in sensational costumes designed by Deborah McKendrick.
Also on the program will be the adventurous Story of Babar the Little Elephant written by Jean de Brunhoff, with music by Francis Poulenc together with the seldom performed, delightful Munro Leaf story of Ferdinand the Bull, who preferred to sit under his favourite cork tree and smell the flowers than go to the bullfights in Madrid!
The Kaleidoscope Ensemble is dedicated to working with, and performing for, young people. Their aim is to engage and inspire children; to plant the seeds for them to gain a lifetime appreciation of music and wonderful words.
