The Best Of The West End | MSO Pops Print
Since the turn of the century, music theatre has thrilled audiences with catchy songs and great theatre.

Under the direction of British conductor Nick Davies, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra brings to life ‘The Best of the West End’ in two toe-tappin’ shows at the Arts Centre, Hamer Hall on 6 and 7 September.

Two of the U.K. theatre’s brightest talents - David Shannon and Jacinta Whyte - will perform unforgettable hits from the musical stage. Together, David and Jacinta will sing music from Cats, We Will Rock You, The Phantom of the Opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Lion King, Oliver and many more. From London’s West End and the Golden age of Hollywood to the sophistication of Sondheim, enjoy tunes you know and love performed by your Orchestra that will have you hummin’ along.

Conductor Nick Davies’ West End credits include Martin Guerre, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Fred Astaire – His Daughter's Tribute, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre, for which he was also Musical Supervisor in Germany, Finland and Belgium, the world premiere of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward, and Evita at the Adelphi Theatre.

Jacinta Whyte has performed as Eponine in Les Misérables at The Palace Theatre and Ellen in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Her other theatre credits include Giulietta in Aspects of Love, Rizzo/Sandy in Grease, Anne in Anne of Green Gables, Polly Perkins in Cinderella and Rosalia in West Side Story.

David Shannon has recently played the role of Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera at London’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. His previous West End credits include Chris in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Gringoire in Notre Dame de Paris at the Dominion, The Man in Whistle Down the Wind at the Adelphi, Rum Tum Tugger in Cats at the New London, Guillaume in Martin Guerre at the Prince Edward and Marius in Les Misérables at the Palace.

Join the MSO in a powerhouse presentation of songs from the big shows, making a grand finale to MSO Pops 2008.
