NORPA presents The Bloody Bride Print

“I’m watching myself, just watching this other person like someone in a movie, wondering what she’ll do next”

Written by Hilary Bell Directed By Julian Louis

Featuring Kyas Sherriff, Ed Wightman & Shane Nagle

A young couple (Cassie and Darren) find themselves drawn into the seductive world of Leo, an urbane traveller now living in a dilapidated caravan on the outskirts of Lismore. As Cassie becomes increasingly intoxicated by Leo’s worldliness and charm, the couples’ relationship is poisoned and their sense of who they are is overturned. When Cassie learns that Leo’s visa has expired she offers to marry him for money, creating an intense situation that sets the scene for an all consuming battle for love.

The story takes inspiration from Lorca’s Blood Wedding in a dynamic tale of jealousy, love, marriage and death. The text, written by Hilary Bell, is a dark journey of seduction where worlds are turned upside down. The play explores the routine of our urban environment and its collision with the inherent spirituality so significant in the Northern Rivers region.

This NORPA production has been inspired by the culture of our region and is a dark and poetic thriller. It will include projections, music and has a very dynamic text crafted by Hilary Bell. The Bloody Bride, directed by Julian Louis is the next new Australian work to be created in our region. Starring Kyas Sheriff who returns to the region after establishing her acting career in Sydney and Brisbane (Company B Belvoir, QTC etc) actor Shane Nagle and highly experienced and dynamic actor Ed Wightman (Bell Shakespeare etc)

NORPA is one of Australia’s leading regional performing arts companies. Since 1993 NORPA has created innovative, bold, passionate theatre, to give a national voice to regional culture.
