The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie | Windmill Performing Arts/Company B Print
In association with Adelaide Festival Centre, UWA Perth International Arts Festival and Sydney Festival In the year Australia celebrates May Gibbs’ 130th birthday, Windmill Performing Arts and Company B will co-produce a new musical adapted from a series of her books.

Windmill’s Creative Director Cate Fowler said, “This exciting new Australian production brings Windmill and the acclaimed Company B together for the first time on a production guaranteed to appeal to both children and adults alike.”

Directed by Company B’s Artistic Director Neil Armfield and with music by celebrated composer Alan John, the piece is written by one of Australia’s most loved and admired political satirists, John Clarke, with Doug MacLeod (children’s poet and book author). Cast for the production includes: Simon Burke as Mr Lizard, Kris McQuade as Mrs Snake, Tim Richards as Snugglepot, Darren Gilshenan as Cuddlepie and Ursula Yovich as Ragged Blossom.

The Adelaide season will be sponsored by Community CPS Australia and is co-presented with the Adelaide Festival Centre.

It’s a baffling country for a young gumnut. The Banksia Men want the bush for themselves, Mrs Snake’s up to less good than usual, those weird human beings are lurking in the shadows, and who is this marvellous Ragged Blossom, newly floated down from the treetops? With so much to find out and so few answers, there’s really only one thing to do: take a trip to the city and see what the whole shebang is about.
