Motortown by Simon Stephens Print
“Danny returns from Basra to a foreign England and a different kind of battle. He visits an old flame, buys a gun and goes on a blistering trip through the new home front.”

"This is a searingly honest play..recklessly brave...with a deadly coiled energy." The Guardian, UK

With Australian soldiers returning home from Iraq, Motortown is now more relevant than ever. ‘I don't blame the war. The war was alright. I miss it. It's just you come back to this.’ It forces the audience to question whether the people who return home are the same as those who left. “It is a play about the fallout of the ‘war on terror’. It is also a play about the fallout of the war in Iraq. In that sense the play is an attempt to find a moral stability in a very morally insecure world.” says author Simon Stephens.

Motortown is a darkly humorous rollercoaster ride, holding a magnifying glass up to the impact of economic poverty in western society, the sometimes painful search for our own identity in what is becoming an anonymous world.

Directed by Shane Jones, and featuring Sam Clark, Norman Doyle, Kathryn Fray, Chris Power, Rob Thwaites and Yvette Walker, with design by Kitty Taube, this promises to be an exceptional production.
